Contracting Officer (301) 402-2282 The National Institute of Allergy
and Infectious Diseases, intends to procure a sole source simplified
acquisition with the University of Miami, Division of Veterinary
Research Perrine Primate Center. The University of Miami is a certified
Center for Disease Control quarantine station for import of non human
primate shipments. This CDC quarantine is a mandatory requirement for
the care, housing and handling for these fifty Mystax Tamarins. Pan
American Health Organization along with CDC will only allow University
of Miami to hous, quarantine and care for these Mystax Tamarins due to
the certification and strict requirements that give guidelines for the
non human primates care. The animals (qty. 50) are a specific breed of
Sauginus Mystax Monkeys. The moustached Tamarin is a neotropical
species of non-human primate that is available exclusively through the
Pan American Health Orgainzation, Peruvian Primatology Project,
Iquitos, Peru to support the ongoing hepatitis studies. Peru, through
the Auspices ofthe Pan American Health Organization is the sole source
for this New World non-human primate species in conjunction with the
University of Miami via a memorandum of understanding with the National
Institutes of Health Office of Animal Care and Use. See numbered note
